Mason/Welsh Family - 0 replies

Melissa Posted by Melissa in Ancestry and family history in Brewarrina on Thu Jul 6, 2023 5:46pm

Hi everyone, My name is Melissa and I am after any information that anyone may have regarding the Welsh/Mason family. I have been told that my great grandmother Gladys Eva May Mason grew up in and around Werris Creek and Quirindi areas. I know that the Mason family lived near the Daley's opposite the river going out of town and Gladys worked as a cook at the Railway Motel.

My grandmother Barbara Cambridge (born Williamson - daughter of Gladys) often visited Roy Mason and family regularly when I was a child. Nan would tell stories of growing up and visiting Werris Creek, watching movies under a tarp with other family members outside the community hall which has lead me to believe that we are Aboriginal. Later in life I tried to talk to my nan about this however she would shut me down, simply saying we don't talk about that so I never really pushed.

As an adult I have traced my family tree but still have not found any connections. I have always felt a strong connection to country and other Aboriginal peoples and I would like to be able to confirm this and truly connect with my mob and teach my children.

I hope someone hear will be able to at least point me in the right direction.

Thanks, Mel

Looking for info on my grandparents, John Roland Byrnes and Kathleen Ryan. John was a carrier and had a changing station for Cobb and Co. Have little information on Kathleen who was born in Walgett (no registrations). Came to Qld (St George I think) in early 1890s. Married John Yuleba in 1915.  It's really Kathleen I'm looking for - sometimes she went by Catherine Taylor, Kate Ryan or Kathleen Ryan. She was born in 1879 and died in Toowoomba in  1947.

Many thanks in advance.

Looking for info on Ernest Morton Lewis - 1 replies

Lewis54 Posted by Lewis54 in Ancestry and family history in Marchagee on Mon Jun 5, 2023 9:17pm

Hi everyone. I’ve recently been tracking my family history. It seems my grandfather Ernest Morton Lewis was a farm hand in the area back in 1954. He was 58 years of age then and passed away a few years after this. Any info would b greatly appreciated. Thank you

I have what I think is an older style Mondella/Watermark mixer tap that needs to have the cartridge replaced. I have changed cartridges on mixer taps many times before, but on this one, I can't find any screw that releases the end cap to access the cartridge. Any advice - other than replacing the entire tap - would be appreciated. I have attached photos of the tap, and the hole that is exposed - where I would expect to find the screw - after the handle is removed. It's a bit blurred, but there is no Allen, Philips, or flat balde screw in the bottom of the hole.

History of Bringalily. - 0 replies

jaiki jaiki Posted by jaiki jaiki in Photos of Bringalily on Mon Apr 17, 2023 1:22pm

I am trying to trace some places my mother took me  as a child. She and her siblings used to go to the Bringalily school.  As a child she says local aboriginals used to call her Jaiki jaiki.  They used to have a property with a lagoon where they would catch yellow belly. One year during a drought all the leaves had been eaten up as high as the sheep could reach standing on their hind legs.  The ewes had miscarried and were all dead along the fence .She took me to a place where there was a small water hole/dam next to the footpath and there was a house further out in a paddock. I understand that the school building was removed. Her surname was McCorry. Would be pleased to get a few photos so could show my cousins.

Mark.
